The Istituto Restauro Roma - IRR is a point of reference in technical, scientific and managerial training in the field of Conservation and Restoration. The Institute draws on the experience of the Italian Institute of Art and Restoration in Rome, which since 1985 has trained over 3,000 technicians (from all over the world) in professional training courses and international summer courses.
The level of educational excellence is ensured by the integrated use of innovative educational content, cutting-edge technical equipment and onsite training.
The peculiarity and strong point of the training activity are the construction sites, which complete the classroom activities and guarantee the ideal connection between knowledge, skills and hands on experience.
The practical activity takes place in laboratories set in structures both religious and laical, working on elements of the national artistic, historical and cultural heritage protected by the competent territorial Superintendencies that constantly verify the scientific and qualitative level of each intervention.
Among the many restoration projects on "frescoes", paintings on canvas and wood, worthy of mention are those in the Abbey of the Three Fountains, the Church of St. Augustine, the Church of S. Maria della Vittoria, the Church of S. Maria in Traspontina and other 30 churches in Rome, Lazio, and Umbria, with the technical collaboration of the "master restorers" of the paintings restoration laboratory of the Vatican Museums.
Also significant are the many years of experience in the Vatican Museums on the stuccoes of the Vault in the Gallery of Geographical Maps and in St. Peter's Basilica on the portraits of the "crowned Madonnas" painted on canvas.
